I think you can tell how cool a town is by how well their traffic lights work. Good places have lots of sensors on each one and some synchronization. Bad places have the same stupid lights that people had for eighty years and they waste lots of people's time for no reason. People talk about reducing pollution and they come up with all sort of exotic ideas, but this one is so simple that people aren't interested in doing it.
